Hi @User20300,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP laptop is shutting down when unplugged and showing a battery calibration warning. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.
Perform a Hard Reset
Turn off your laptop and unplug the charger.
Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
Reconnect only the charger (without the battery if removable) and try turning it on.
Check Battery Connection (if removable)
Power off the laptop and remove the battery.
Wipe the metal contacts gently with a dry cloth and reinsert the battery securely.
Turn on the laptop and see if it stays powered on.
Run a Battery Test in HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
Turn off the laptop, then press the Power button, and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
Press F2 for System Diagnostics → Component Tests → Power → Battery.
Note the battery status and result (PASSED, FAILED, or CALIBRATION REQUIRED).
Update BIOS and Drivers
Open HP Support Assistant → Updates → Check for updates.
Install any BIOS or battery-related firmware updates available.
Perform Battery Calibration Again
Plug in the charger and charge the battery to 100%.
Let it stay plugged in for 2 more hours after reaching full charge.
Then unplug it and let the battery discharge completely until the laptop shuts down.
Plug it back in and charge it to 100% without interruption.
Check LED Indicator Pattern
Blinking between orange and white often indicates a communication issue between the battery and the system or a weak battery cell.
If the laptop only works when plugged in, the battery may no longer hold a charge and might need replacement.I hope this helps.
