I have the similar problem as a result of External hard drive but i didn't get when you said you removed it from the notification area. Did you mean you Eject the hard disk first on the notification bar or there is something else to do on the notification area i didn't do because the same problem appears again " no hard drive installed". How can i make the laptop to forget about the External HDD?.

Looks like the Mods separated out your post because you tacked it onto someone else's thread -- so the individual poster is not seeing this to respond to you.
