Pavilion 15T-cs000 CT0

I just bought a brand new Pavilion 15T laptop, and the fan is incredibly loud. It has been like this since the first time I turned it on. Sometimes it does eventually get quieter, but the sound is still very high-pitched and bothersome. I have tried the different solutions offered in the previous discussion here, but nothing has fixed it. Currently I have no other programs running beyond Google Chrome, so I know I am not overworking it. There is one very hot spot near the center of the vent on the bottom of the laptop, so I am wondering if this is a hardware issue and if I need to have this sent back to be fixed? Thanks

Brand new computer (Pavilion 15T 15-cs0xxx) with the same problem. I updated the BIOS and the fan has not quieted. Are there any other fixes? I have never heard a laptop this loud.

The most common cause of overheating is the accumulation of dust inside the laptop. The electrical components in a notebook generate heat and fans inside the notebook help move the air to keep the components cooled to normal operating temperatures.

  • Have you tried removing dust and lint by cleaning vents?
  • Have you tried placing the notebook in a cooler room?

While you respond to that, let's test hardware:
Use the following instructions to open the System Tests menu in the software.

  1. In Windows, search for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows and select Run as administrator.

    If this app is not on your computer, download the latest version from the HP Hardware Diagnostics website.

  2. On the main menu, click System Tests.

  3. The System Tests menu opens.

The problem certainly wasn't dust accumulation- I had just received the brand new computer in the mail earlier in the day. The room was cool and the computer had finished all initial setup/updates and had been idle for a while. It persisted the next morning after 8+ hours off.

 

Tech support had me try updating the BIOS and running hardware diagnostics. Neither made a difference. I was told it was a hardware problem and returned the computer today.
