Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (9L8M3AV)

Hello! I just used my laptop once since I bought it and the second time I tried to use it, it would not charge if it was not turned off or on sleep mode.

Hi @tsaraaa, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your Victus Gaming Laptop 16 is experiencing a charging issue where it only charges when turned off or in sleep mode. This could be related to software settings, battery firmware, or a hardware fault. Try the following steps:

Check the Charging Port & Adapter

  • Ensure the charger is properly plugged in at both the laptop and wall socket.
  • Try a different power outlet to rule out an issue with the socket.
  • Inspect the charging port and adapter for dust, debris, or damage.

Perform a Power Reset

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the charger and remove any external devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Plug the charger back in and turn the laptop on.

Update BIOS & Drivers

  • Go to HP Support and download the latest BIOS update for your model.
  • Update the battery drivers:
    1. Right-click on Start and open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Batteries.
    3. Right-click Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
    4. Click Uninstall device (do not restart).
    5. Click Scan for hardware changes and restart the laptop.

Check Windows Battery & Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Ensure that USB Power Delivery / USB Selective Suspend is disabled.
  • Check for any battery-saving settings that may limit charging.

Run Battery & AC Adapter Diagnostics

  • Restart the laptop and press F2 during boot to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery and AC Adapter Test to check for faults.

Try a Different Charger (if available)

If possible, test with another HP-compatible charger (same voltage and wattage) to check if the issue is with the power adapter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
