HP Chromebook 14 inch 14a-na1000 (323Q4AV)

Sadly and unexpectedly, I too have a problem with my Chromebook HP14a.  As others have described, the hinge simply snapped with the screen separating from its frame.  The screen will neither open nor close properly, and despite a fully charged battery, the machine will not power on. The chromebook has never been dropped or abused in any way, and indeed, as a retired individual, this  chromebook has had a sedentary life at home and never carried in backpacks commuting to school or work.  As a user of other HP products (we have an HP printer and laptop, as well), I am disappointed with what appears to be a known design flaw or manufacturing defect and now have a completely inoperable machine.

@PaddyCakes,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Check for Visible Damage:

  • Inspect the hinge area for broken plastic or metal parts.
  • Look for loose or disconnected cables near the hinge.

Attempt a Hard Reset:

  • Hold the Refresh button and tap the Power button.
  • If nothing happens, try holding both for 10-15 seconds.

Check the Power Adapter & Battery:

  • Try a different USB-C charger (if available).
  • Plug in the charger and leave it for 30 minutes, then retry powering on.
  • If no LED lights appear, the internal power connection may be damaged.

Inspect the Screen Connection:

  • Sometimes, hinge damage pulls the display ribbon cable loose, preventing power-on.
  • If comfortable, you can carefully open the back panel and check the display cable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
