CPU upgreade g6-2301sh

HP Recommended
pavilon g6-2301sh
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I would like to upgrade a pavilon g6-2301sh, it has an pentium 2020m inside. My problem is that the service guide mentions AMD processors, but it clearly has an intel inside. Would a intel i5-3230 compatible?

Thanks

Hi:

There are two service manuals for the g6-2300 model series,

You need to look at the one on the bottom of the manuals listing.

HP Pavilion g6-2300 Notebook PC series Manuals | HP® Customer Support

Chapter 1 has the list of  supported Intel processors.

Thanks, I bought an i5 3210M. It should be compatible, but the PC wont start. Can I assume that the CPU curropted, or there is a BIOS update or similiar I need to do before?

You're very welcome.

According to the manual, the i5-3210M should have worked with no problem.

I don't see any info where a BIOS update would be required to install that processor.

None of the updates address adding support for additional processors.

Version: F.27 Rev.

Fixed in this release: - Provides improved security for UEFI BIOS.

Version: F.26 Rev.

Fixed in this release: - Provides improved security for UEFI EDK2.
NOTE: HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version.

Version: F.25 Rev.

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an issue where the usable memory on a system running Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit edition is less than full capacity when the memory installed on the system is 2GB or greater.- Provides the function to create a BIOS recovery media on a USB flash drive.

Version: F.23 Rev.

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an issue where the usable memory on a system running Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit edition is less than full capacity when the memory installed on the system is 2GB or greater.

Version: F.22

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an issue which causes the display to be visually corrupted when the system is restarted and then the F11 key is pressed to launch system recovery.- Provides the updated VGA BIOS.

It is possible that the processor you bought was no good.

I hope that is the problem, because if it isn't I would have no idea why it didn't work.
