Hi,
The dv7-4170us uses motherboard part number 615686-001. There are 7 models/products use this motherboard

and the dv7-4272us uses motherboard part number 630833-001 which is for 6 models/products

Hi:
I would say yes. They both seem to have pretty much the same hardware and use the same service manual.

I'm using the newer computer now, When my IT tech is availible we will give a shot at transfering into the newer case.
One more question. I am interested in upgrading the processor, would I be able to install any quad cores?
03-21-2017 05:05 PM
The service manual indicates support for a few quad core processors...
See chapter 1, page 1 for the list of supported processors.
