HP 15-BS542TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Can I upgrade the RAM memory of HP 15-BS542TU. Should I have to use the same ram? I have my friends dead hp pavilion laptop with i5 processor and 8 GB ram . can I use that ram on my  HP 15-BS542TU?

As I suspected it is DDR3, not DDR4. You could not even insert the modules from the old laptop into your new laptop. The modules are keyed differently.

Odds are not. The laptop uses DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM memory which is pretty much the newest type so an older dead laptop probably does not have compatible memory.

You do have to use the corrrect RAM. You have a single 8 gig module and could add another 8 gig module to have 16 gigs.

Service Manual

Start on p. 47 for installation instructions.

HP Part number for memory:

Memory module (PC4-2400) For use in models with 6th and 7th generation Intel Core processors: 8-GB 862398-855

that pavilion laptop with beats audio is 1.5 years older . and is dead due to inbuilt graphical issues. and it has a single 8 GB ram. so you are saying that that ram wont be suitable for my laptop?

"that RAM"....what is it?? Your laptop must have DDR4-2400. If you had the model number of the other laptop I could tell you. It's like asking "I have an old car....can I take the tires off it and put them on my new car?" Answer: it depends.

am sorry for saying that . I don't know much about laptops or its hardware. let me check the model number and will post here. sorry 🙂
