Can I install 500 GB SSD both for OS and storage purposes removing the HDD completely on my HP 15-r036TU laptop?

You can replace 500 GB 5400 rpm SATA with 550GB (or more) 2.5" SSD completely. Crucial MX500, Samsung 860 EVO and few other brands are good candidates for your machine.
