Would like to upgrade the capacity of the SSD

What do you mean larger ? Do you mean capacity ?  M.2 SSD's come in with many sizes but they have same width and the length is 80mm max for your machine.

 

It is safe to replace 128GB with a new SSD up to 1TB or even more.
