Can an external graphics card be connected to my Envy laptop?

HP Recommended
HP ENVY15 u011dx laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP ENVY15 u011dx laptop has an integrated graphics card. I'm told that an integrated card cannot be upgraded and, there is only 1 GB of video memory. That being the case, can an external graphics card with 4 GB VRAM be connected to one of my USB type-A ports? The laptop does not have USB-C ports. Is that another issue? I wouldn't want the external card connected to the laptop all the time, just for gaming purposes for my grandson. I'm not able to buy a new updated/upgraded laptop at the present time.

It does not have internal/external port which is fast enough for an eGPU

Regards.
