My question is can I upgrade to i7 processor ?

If so which version ?

Yes up to an i7-2620M can be dropped into the socket in place of the i3-2310M you have now. Bump from 2.1 ghz to 2.7 ghz would be noticeable, but it will still be a laptop on the edge of being obsolete at this point.  

 

Still, if you do the labor yourself, $40 for the processor is a valid investment:
