Hi:

A blue ray drive was not offered as an option.

The official HP replacement can be found in chapter 3 of the service manual below...

Optical drive (DVD+/-RW Double-Layer SuperMulti; includes bracket and bezel)

For use in all models

HP Part # 858505-001

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05087748

Do your search by the part number.

You can buy directly from HP as well...but it is currently out of stock.

This guy is selling one on eBay for almost half of what HP charges.   May not be brand new though.

@chance26

What is your machine actually ? Pavillion ay-018nr is not a valid model/product. Only available model is HP Notebook - 15-ay018nr  or HP 15-ay018nr:

If you wish, you can buy from

    http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=858505-001

or Amazon

   https://www.amazon.com/858505-001-HP-DVD-RW-DOUBLE-LAYER/dp/B01LZ971O6

For Bluray option, an internal SATA Bluray with 9.5mm thickness can do the job.  You need to make sure vendor has driver for it.

Regards.

Thanks so much, Paul.  Exactly what I needed to know.

Banhein - thanks so much.  It's actually the HP 15 model.  I appreciate the advice.  For the Blu Ray, would any internal 9.5mm SATA work or should I look for a specific manufacturer?

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to answer your question about the BR drive.

In theory it should, but you would probably have to change the bezel and you would probably want one from the same manufacturer as the DVD drive, if one exists.

I bought the drive : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07651674P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Installed it, but the laptop is not recognizing it at all.  It isn't showing up in the Device Manager - nor will the door eject (there is no juice).  I simply installed the new one and restarted pc.  Is there something else I need to do to make it recognize the new drive?

Hi:

All that you should have needed to do was to plug the drive in the same place as the old one.

Power and data should have come alive.

So, was the original one behaving the same way?  Just disappeared from the device manager, no power, door won't open?

If so most likely both drives are fine and the motherboard is shot.
