Pavilion DV7I-7000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro from the Microsoft Media Creation Tool on a USB Drive. After it was installed, I disabled Legacy mode in the BIOS and re-booted. It booted up, but only showed a black screen. No POST and no HP logo and no access to the Fn keys. If I want to change the boot priority, I can't use the F9 key. If I want to enter the BIOS configuration, I can't use F10. I tried disabling "Fast Boot" and it didn't do anything but make the boot time longer. I was advised that if I would power up while holding the Windows+b key and then push F2, this problem would go away, but it didn't change.

This is a HP DV7I-7000 with an I7-3610QM CPU and 6GB of RAM and the BIOS is Insyde F.29

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

@okrobie
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Are you able to boot into windows desktop?
  • Have you tried reinstalling the OS again?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake, Thank you for your support. I have tried all that and in addition I have flashed the bios by un-powering it and waiting till it was reset. Same result. I didn't disclose an important fact however. The screen is cracked an not presently installed so I have been operating with an external VGA monitor. One chap on another forum suggested that that might be causing the problem. I have another screen on order from China and it will be here in a few weeks. I will re-activate the thread at that time when I install the new screen and test his theory. Thanks, Jim
