Changing hard drive

HP Recommended
HP OMEN 15-Dc0001nx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good morning everyone,

 I decided to change hard drive in my notebook, currently, i have 2 hard drives which are 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA and 16 GB PCIe® NVMe™ Intel® Optane™. I want to replace intel optane to Samsung 860 evo 500gb ssd. In computer service centre they told me that if I will decide to replace optane hard drive my main hdd hard drive may be will not work properly. Maybe someone knows what I need to do to insert properly my new hard drive without losing my windows os and files which I have saved?

Kind regards,

Ete6nal

@Ete6nal

Lets get the terms straight first -- as an SSD is NOT a hard drive.  Confusing the two makes it difficult to understand and solve problems.

The Optane memory stick is CACHE -- meaning is is configured to improve performance of the hard drive.  You can NOT replace it with an SSD.  That will not work. Your best bet is to leave it alone.

If you replace the hard drive, you will have a serious issue because a routine reinstallation of Windows to the new drive will not work properly because it will not know how to use the Optane memory.  Your best bet is to leave it alone.
