Strangest problem ever.  This notebook PC is only a month old, bought from Costco.  We traveled for 2 weeks to Europe, the PC power supply was plugged into 220v, all worked well.  We returned home (to the USA with 110V) and when I plugged the PC power supply into the socket, the 15A breaker tripped.  I reset the breaker and about 5 minutes later, it tripped again.

 

Now, running an experiment, I took the PC power supply, and while it was NOT connected to the PC via the USB-C connector, I plugged it into a different plug that had a GFCI circuit and the GFCI plug immediately tripped.  I let things rest for a few hours and plugged the unit in again, and all is working well, it has worked fine for 4 days now.

 

I am not an expert on transformers, but I do know that a magnet is one component of an AC-DC power supply.  My only conclusion is that the 220v placed the power supply (and its magnet) in some semi-permanent state that caused it to suck a lot of current when I plugged it into 110.  Has anyone heard of this type of problem? Any thoughts if my power supply suffered permanent damage and needs to be replaced?
