AMD started providing OS level microcode information about the time this laptop was marketed, so most if not all of the CPU's that came out after this would have microcode support at the OS level. With Linux, the microcode automatically is loaded with the kernel when the system boots. Other operating systems you might have to install software to get the support.
No idea how any of that might work in practice. But I'd be willing to try. The question then would be which socket S1 CPU's are compatable electrically with the CPU socket in this 6715b laptop? Wiki has a nice listing of all the mobile AMD CPU's , but for some reason they don't list voltages for a lot of them.
Thanks, Bill
