My computer is not changing when it is plugged in.  I have checked the plug, etc.

Hi @MikeF52

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for checking the basics already—let’s dig a little deeper to get your HP charging properly again. This issue is often caused by a driver glitch, battery calibration problem, or a power management setting that’s misbehaving.

Here’s a structured fix that’s worked for many HP users:

🛠️ Step-by-Step Fix: “Plugged In, Not Charging”

Reset the Battery Driver

  • Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager
  • Expand Batteries
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and choose Uninstall device
  • Do the same for Microsoft AC Adapter
  • Restart your computer—Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically

Perform a Hard Power Reset

  • Shut down your computer
  • Unplug the charger and remove any peripherals
  • If your battery is removable, take it out
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
  • Reconnect everything and power on

Check Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings
  • Expand Battery > Plugged in and make sure all settings allow charging
  • Set Minimum processor state to 5% under Processor power management

Run HP Battery Diagnostics

  • Restart and press Esc, then F2 to launch HP UEFI Diagnostics
  • Run the Battery Test and note any failure codes

Let me know what happens after these steps—especially if the battery starts charging again or if diagnostics show a fault. We’ll keep pushing until your HP is powered up and ready to go 💪🔋.
