HP Pavilion x360
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The original battery was replaced because it was not charging, it also seems slightly swollen. Once the replacement battery is plugged into the motherboard the laptop won't start. the screen just remains blank. If the battery is not plugged in the laptop works normal with the charger. Thanks in advance.

@A_James,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is not booting to Windows when the battery is connected.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Did you purchase the replacement battery from HP?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for replying. I got the battery from Amazon. The computer started with a message warning that the battery needs to be changed.  I updated the BIOS a little while ago. When I put the mouse over the battery icon this is the message I am seeing "0% plugged in, not charging"

Test the battery using the UEFI Hardware Diagnostic tests

  1. Make sure the power cord and adapter is connected to the system and wall outlet.

  2. Press and hold the power button until the computer turns off completely.

  3. Turn on the computer.

  4. Immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics screen is displayed.

  5. In the UEFI Main menu, select Component Tests.

Ok, thank you. I still did not get it resolved. Would just replace the laptop. Thanks to all those who tried to help me.
