HP Stream Laptop 5CD6386338
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everybody,

I wanted to solve the error DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION message. I read on a forum it's due to a wrong driver installed on windows 10 (iastor.sys) which need to be changed with storahci.sys driver. I entered devices management menu  trying to find IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to expand it, but I couldn't find it for the simple reason that it's not included in the menu.

Nw my question is : how can my laptop work without such an important controller? I'm very surprised and confused. Can anyone help me?

Hi @JayBlue

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to find the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager.

Don’t worry, we will work together to resolve this issue and It’s a pleasure to assist you in this regard.

I would like to inform you that by default the ACHI mode is enabled in the bios and this the reason why you are unable to find the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager.

For the DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION error, I recommend you to enter safe mode and perform a system restore to an earlier date when the computer was working fine.

Follow the steps in the below link to perform a system restore.
