I'm trying to add 8 GB ram to my HP pavillion entertainment dv7 3183cl.  crucial no longer has any upgrade info on this old thing. I've ordered RAM taking a guess but it wouldn't fit.  Intalled is supposed to be PC2 6400 ddr2 sodimm 200 pin SDRAM,.Product=WA721UA#ABA  One site stated it needed DDR3 PC3 10600 1333Mhz   CAn anyone help?

I answered that question for someone else abut two years ago.

The memory module requirement for the laptop is DDR3, not DDR2. 

That is why the memory you ordered did not fit.

 

You can only upgrade to 8GB, not 16GB, as @Paul_Tikkanen explained in the thnread at the link below.
