Two days ago I normally opened my laptop like casually. But I noticed my built-in web camera wont turn on when I try to log in by Windows Hello. Also my camera app says <NoCameraAttached> error message. When I looked up in the Device Manager, it was hidden (both HD Camera and IR). I try to search it online, then there are some options to fix it, by updating drivers, rollback or delete, restart then scan for hardware changes (to reinstall). I tried to uninstall (since the first two options wont do) the Camera (not the IR) then restart and scan for hardware changes. But unfortunately, it doesnt come back there. I also tried installing the HP Universal Camera Driver from the HP Driver Download page but still it doesnt.

Hi @Jeizerssss
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your built-in HD camera and IR sensor are missing from Device Manager after uninstalling the driver, and reinstalling the HP Universal Camera Driver didn’t restore them, the system likely isn’t detecting the hardware at all.
Let’s walk through a precise recovery path to help Windows rediscover the camera.
Step-by-step recovery for missing HP HD Camera and IR sensor:
1. Enable “Show Hidden Devices” in Device Manager
Sometimes the camera remains listed but hidden due to driver issues.
- Press Windows + X, select Device Manager
- Click View > Show hidden devices
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras
- If the camera appears grayed out, right-click and choose Uninstall device
- Restart your laptop and check if it reappears
2. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
This checks whether the camera hardware is physically detected.
- Power off the laptop
- Press Esc, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
- Select Component Tests > Camera
- If the camera test is missing or fails, the hardware may be disconnected or disabled
3. Check BIOS Settings
The camera may be disabled at the firmware level.
- Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup
- Navigate to Advanced > Device Configuration or Security > I/O Port Access
- Ensure Integrated Camera and IR Camera are set to Enabled
- Save changes and exit
4. Install HP IR Camera Driver (if applicable)
If your laptop supports Windows Hello facial recognition, it needs both HD and IR camera drivers.
- Visit the HP Driver Downloads page
- Enter your exact laptop model (e.g., HP Spectre x360 14-ea0xxx or HP Envy x360 13-ay0xxx)
- Download and install:
- HP IR Camera Driver
- HP HD Camera Driver
- Intel Imaging or RealSense Driver (if listed)
Restart after installation.
5. Use Windows Optional Updates
Windows Update may offer missing drivers.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates
- Expand Driver Updates
- Install any camera-related updates listed
6. Run Windows Troubleshooter
This can detect missing devices and reinstall drivers.
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
- Run the Camera troubleshooter
- Follow the prompts and restart
Let me know your exact laptop model and whether the camera appears in BIOS or diagnostics. That will help confirm whether the issue is driver-related or hardware-level.
Once the camera is rediscovered, Windows Hello and the Camera app should respond instantly.
