HP Spectre x360 - 15t-ch000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been having trouble with my Spectre x360 laptop -- lots of blue screens and reboots.  I ran a diagnostic today which I have bad RAM in "slot 2".  The part number is listed as a Samsung MK471A1K43DB1-CTD.  I've searched but can't find this through HP or on amazon.  There are several listings for M471A1K43CB1-CTD (note it's a CB1 rather than DB1).  Maybe that will work.  How can I tell?  And while I'm at it, it's worth asking that if I find the right replacement RAM module, how can I tell which is "slot 2".  Thanks so much for your help.

Hi:

I found that part on New Egg, but it will take some time to get to the USA.

You can probably also use a compatible Crucial 8 GB 2666 MHz memory part number.

It should work fine with the good chip.

Sometimes the slots are labeled accordingly underneath where you remove the memory.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the memory removal and replacement procedure.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply.  I really appreciate the help.  It's hard to believe that a part for this common PC purchased from Best Buy would need to be special ordered and shipped on its own from China.  I ended up buying the "CB1" version from Amazon yesterday.  The specs look exactly the same. I figure it can return it if it doesn't work.  In this thread on Reddit, the person asks the same question and one of the replies says that they used it and it works.  I also compared the more detailed specs size by side from Memory.net and they're exactly the same.

This is what I bought:

Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CTD 8GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory Module - Memory Modules (8GB, 1 x 8GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz, 260-Pin SO-DIMM, Black, Green)

The Crucial option seems like a good recommendation too but I wanted to stick with the original manufacturer.

And thanks for the instructions on installation.  Hopefully the slots will be labelled.  In addition to being slot 2, it says "right slot" but is that from the top, upside down, spun around? Right and left seem very confusing.  [you don't need to answer] Hopefully it will be labelled.

Best,

Rusty

You're very welcome, Rusty.

The only thing I can say about the memory is don't forget that all HP notebooks are manufactured in China, and they get most of the the parts from there.

That specific memory part number might be what Samsung provides to the local Chinese memory supplier.
