So, I prefer to use the key pad when typing numbers. It's basically always how I enter numbers when I need to. As a result, I get very frustrated when I bump the numlock key, & it gets turned off. I've updated the registry so that the numlock is set to on as default. But that still doesn't keep the key on the keypad from shutting it off. How can I disable the numlock key, so that if I bump it while working it doesn't shut numlock off. Basically I want numlock always 'on' and the numlock key to be useless.
Hope this makes sense, and I thank you all in advance for your help!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The only to enable the number lock key permanently is from the registry which you have already tried. There is no other way to enable it permanently.
You might have tried this before, but here's how to enable it through the registry:
- Click Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.
- In the registry, open the below folders.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\
- Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

About the only way I could think of possibly doing what you're asking is to install some type of keyboard remapper software and then map that numlock key to something that doesn't generate a character like the shift key.
Here is something from Microsoft that might be able to remap that key...

Worth a try I guess. GOOD LUCK!

Problem is that your solution doesn't disable the the num lock key from being accidently toggled when in number keypad mode. That's the question and couldn't find anything in the bios that disables the num lock key from interfering with work after being accidently pressed.
Moreover, thre's no indicator light on the laptop to show the mode (keypad on or off)
