Is the CD room socket the same speed as the HDD socket ? 

Some people install the SSD in the place of the CD room!

The slot shown above is for a SATA type 2280 form factor M.2 SSD. The CD socket is not the same speed. You are best to put an SSD in the red socket. Check the insides of the laptop for a socket before you buy an SSD. If the slot is not there, you can put a hard drive in a CD caddy for just storage and then put a 2.5 inch SATA SSD where the hard drive is now.

From manual of the series, machines with Intel Core processor should have M.2 SSD slot for SATA SSD but many users and Crucial say it does not have M.2 slot

The chance is 50/50, you have to open your machine to find out

1. Is the CD room socket the same speed as the HDD socket ?

    No, normally SATA on ODD controller is slower.

2. Some people install the SSD in the place of the CD room!

     What for, it is slower and you can't boot from SSD on ODD slot.
