Don’t know if I can upgrade

Hp spectre x360 15 inch “gem cut” df0011tx

Right, So I bought the Hp spectre 15 inch, specs below:

I7 8750h

16gb ddr4

1tb + optane 32gb

Im really enjoying the laptop thus far, but I am worried that I might run out of storage.

I want to upgrade the nvme ssd from the already brilliant 1tb toshiba one, which has 2400read(mbs)/1800write(mbs) respectively, to the 2tb XPG SX8200 which has 3500read/3000write.

Im weary of doing the upgrade as Hp does not offer a 2tb model with optane memory

  • *Don’t know if it infers a bandwith limitation on the part of the motherboard as it cannot support speeds of optane and larger capacity ssd’s

If I upgrade,

Will I have issues with the 32gb Optane memory? (which is soldered on to the motherboard)

Will hp bios or software support faster speeds and storage of the new drive?

Will the hardware support it?

Will I be able to fit it in the m.2/ pcie slot?

Any differences between power-draw and whatnot?

Lastly thermals?

Thanks

@Weelad
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 1 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD installed on the PC.

Support for the following solid-state drives:

Click here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06422405 to know more about storage and hardware. ( refer to 1 Product description )

To get the answer to this question, they won't be any issue Optane memory.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

What is the different of 1 TB SSD with 32 G Optane memory and 1 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD? These 2 configurations have no price difference for the newest spectre 360, are both SSD the same, with the Optane memory as bonus?

@RandyWong
Thank you for posting back.

Having one will get you faster boot times, faster launching of applications, and less time loading games much similar to the benefits of Intel Optane memory. Not all solid-state drives are equal. To mention a few there are 2.5″, mSATA, M.2 and PCI-E SSDs. The 2.5″ SSD is the most familiar and affordable. (techconsumerguide)

@Weelad

There shouldn't be any limitations as such, as we've listed out only the SSD's we've already tested on the device and have worked without any limitations, so its safe to proceed with the 2TB SSD, however, there's not much I can about the Optane upgrade as that's not been tested yet, you may add it at your own discretion... let us know if you need anything else.

Cheers.
