Product: HP EliteBook 755 G5 Notebook PC IDS Base Model

I purchased a used Elite book 755, it was not turning on though the power light flashes at the side. 

 

Upon inspection shortly after buying, it seems to have had someone try to open it up to take a look (few missing screws and scratches in few hard to see places on edge)

 

I checked and it has 5 months remaining on the warranty (via serial number) though I'm not sure it will be covered (due to whoever opened it up - though the seller said it was only opened to remove the SSD and ram before selling. They also mentioned the.person removing the drives etc spotted a chip has seemingly overheated on the motherboard, and sold it telling me it would be repairable)

 

My question is, does anyone know what the repair cost would be and if in some way this may still be covered under the warranty? (given the fault would have occured before whoever opened it up did so)

 

Am a teacher and quite desperately needing a decent laptop for work, with little means to buy a new one, so am hopeful this is something that won't be too costly.
