Envy 13t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy 13t (also has an MX250) which I bought several weeks ago has throttling issues when doing light gaming. I believe this is thermal throttling because once temperatures near the 70C mark, performance drops considerably. I tried rectifying this by changing settings on HP Command Center, but both the Performance and Comfort options just make it worse: the HP Recommended is the best but not as good as it could be. According to HP Support Assistant, everything seems to be updated

Hi @excelsior127

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Also, try updating the BIOS using these steps -  HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply. My laptop updates Windows 10 virtually daily and as I've stated, I also have used HP Support Assistant for updates. BIOS should be updated because they're both on F.05 and HP Support Assistant doesn't make any mention.

Is there some sort of built-in software from HP that controls thermal limits? Is there any way around it, perhaps using outside software? I do know that at least one other person with the same model has encountered the same issue.

Appreciate you trying the steps. I'd suggest you reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding this, they should be able to help.

Thanks

Hi

I was thinking of getting this laptop and was wondering if there was any fix to the throttling or perhaps to the command center settings?

Thanks in advance

I was also thinking about buying the laptop; did you ever find a workaround for the throttling?
