I opened my lid and the left hinge broke the screen. This device has never left the desk it sits on, so has not been dropped or maltreated in any way. I see many, many similar comments, so this seems to be an equipment failure on the HP's part. Has anyone received and help correcting this problem?

I understand that this is a Hardware issue. Since the unit might need repair, I would request you to contact HP Phone support who can schedule a repair as per the warranty and the issue can be fixed.
