Envy 17 Battery Won't Charge and Is Swollen. Should Be Covered Under Recall

I have a ENVY 17t-u100 that will no longer accept a charge. The AC adapter works fine, but the battery charge indicator never gets above 0% and the laptop shuts off immediately after disconnecting the adapter. I ran the BIOS component battery check, and it failed with Failure ID PURHAW-85LA8K-MFGK6K-C0EF03. 

I removed the cover to access the battery, and it is swollen in all three cell areas. I ran the battery recall software check tool, and it reports my battery is NOT covered by the recall. I believe this is an error. How do I get a replacement battery?

The battery technology used by HP and other manufacturers for notebooks, watches, and other devices is not perfect.  I can understand the desire to blame the company for the tech.

If the battery is not covered under recall,

If the battery is out of warranty,

You have a couple of options:

• You can ask HP to provide you with a free repair option

OR

• You can remove the battery and replace it.

The second option is something for which we can offer our assistance.

Removing the battery prevents additional / potential damage to the other components in the computer.

Replacing the battery is a relative straight forward process.
