Envy 15t-a*100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy 15t-a*100 battery does not charge when turned on. The LED beside the AC jack is white. When turned off, it charges OK, LED in orange.

I have followed the thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-ENVY-13-NOT-CHARGING-WHEN-S...

I removed batter ACPI driver and shutdown. It did not work.

I performed UEFI test during boot up. AC adapter reported OK. Primary battery reported charge blown (42).

I also performed Testing and Calibrating the Battery following https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04700771. The result is contradicting that AC adapter test was CANCELLED, while Battery reported OK.

I see some people reported issue resolved in above h30434 ticket, but instruction was through private email. Could HP support agent help me as well?

Thank you in advance

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you try another charger?
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, continue the next step,

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake,

Thanks for responding to my question.  Please see my respond to your question

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?  [SaintMichael] - Not from an update. It was plugged in long time like a desktop, so I actually don't know when this happened. After I see this, I did update my BIOS to latest from HP. But it did not help.
  • Did you try another charger? [SaintMichael] - No. I don't have access to another HP charger. When the laptop was sleep/shutdown, it charges the battery to full (orange led). As soon as I pressed button, the led becomes white.
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?  [SaintMichael] - No. When plugged in, the charger can support laptop to run. Just not charging (the battery percentage remains no change). Once unplugged, the laptop can run on the battery.
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)? [SaintMichael] - no error message. The battery shows plug-in icon. The led is white, and battery percentage does not change at all.

For the rest recommendations, I have tried them out. None of them helped. Is this a charger issue or battery issue? My laptop battery is fixed inside case, no way to visually check. If charger, what charger should I get? There are many chargers on Amazon claimed for Envy, please suggest on certified by HP.

Thanks.

Michael

After reading your post, I did go through the Maintenance and Service Guide of your product and found that your computer supported for a 3-cell, 52-WHr, 4.56-AHr, Li-ion battery, here is the HP spare parts number: 849313-856 and it's the universal part you can order from online stores such as Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Battery-15-AS-849313-856-VS03XL-849313-850/dp/B07XD84J93?tag=incepin-20

Thank you @ECHO_LAKE

I bought on Amazon a 90W charger that output @ 20.1v. The laptop is charging while in use. The original power was outputting 19.2V. So it is a battery issue that old battery requires higher voltage to get charged. When battery fully charged, it lasts for about 3 hours for web browsing load. Will see how soon the battery dies.
