Files on Flash Drive not seen by HP Stream Notebook

HP Stream 11-d011wm
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

When I plug in a San Disk 8GB Flash Drive (SCZ50-008G-B35) the flash drive is acknowledged but the files  stored on the flash drive do not show up.

  • We have multiple HP Stream 11-D011wm notebooks with the exact same issue.
  • We have tried using both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports
  • The same flash drive works fine on other computer models in the office
  • The same files on a 4GB SanDisk flash drive works

Windows recognizes the drive and creates a new drive letter for it?

When you browse to that drive in Windows Explorer, it is empty?

Can you copy files into it?

Exactly.  Windows does recognize the drive and create a new drive letter and the drive appears empty in Windows Explorer.  They are unable to copy files into it.  One person reported that the same flash drive would appear if they connected an USB hub first and plugged it into that.

You might try viewing the drive in the Disk Management utility to see if there is anything unique about its settings, possibly comparing to a USB drive that is working correctly.  You could also format it on the Stream and then it might work.
