I have the above system that has 256gb storage provided by an M2 ssd. There is space for a 2.5" HDD drive and a ZIF connector available. Is this system able to take an additional 1TB HDD in this bay? If so does anyone know where I can get the correct rubber sleeve and the proper ZIF connector.
the manual says
rubber sleeve L20103-001
But the part store says these parts aren't available

That happens from time to time on newer models. It takes a while to fill in the replacement parts channels.
Right now access to the manuals and such is very limited but we can likely find you a rubber sleeve and cable from a related model that will work.

any suggestions on a similar model that might work
looks like a sata connector on one end
and a flex cable that terminates in a ZIF connector on the other side
i haven't had it apart yet just going by the pictures in the manual (just want to open it once).
any help would be greatly appreciated

I just bought a 14m-cd0000 and was waiting until the manuals were accessible again (they are) to check and see if maybe it has the same parts. It does not. Mine is 180 degrees opposite from yours: the cable turns in the other direction to attach to the zif cable The rubber sleeve is also 180 degrees different. The cables can look very similar but each one has a different number of pins. Mine, for example is very slender and connects to a tiny zif connector so you have to be very careful with it. You might check the HP Part Store (just google it) and when you navigate there you get a chat popup and see if one of the helpers can help you find a part. I am not going to go out on a limb and recommend something that might not work.

I found the answer on another thread. It isn't perfect but I as I type, I have installed a Samsung Evo1TB SSD on my HP Envy x360 15 Ryzen.
Here is the link.
If the link doesn't work here is the product name.
Laptop HDD Cable for HP Envy X360 15-CN 15-CN0007TX 15-CN0006TX 450.0ED02.0001
The cable worked and I used the generic enclosure/sleeve. It could be a little tighter, but I didn't think it was worth retrofitting anything.
So far so goo.

The hard drive sleeve worked fine, the ribbon cable appeared to not have the right size connector but it does fit. Once inserted it sits snugly, the ears of the connector hold it in the center of the connector. I used this.
