@WaffleKing99 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to know does hdmi port allow both ways of recieving images from other devices like a xbox

It is not possible to directly change an HDMI output to input. This is because the circuitry is designed in that way but we can use external adapters which could take in HDMI input from an external device and then project it on another device through USB ports or other ports.

Connecting the Xbox One to a laptop via an HDMI cable is simple and easy. The first thing you need to do is to turn off the gaming console. After this, you also need to make sure that no programs or software is running on the laptop. If there are specific windows that are open on your computer, make sure to close it.

Prepare the HDMI cable and then plug one of its end on the HDMI port of the Xbox One. The HDMI port is usually placed at the back of the console. With this, insert the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of the laptop. It is worth noting that some laptops do not possess a port for HDMI. If this is the case with your computer,  you might need to buy an HDMI adapter.

After connecting both ends of the HDMI cable, you can now turn on the gaming console. Wait for a couple of minutes for the laptop to detect the new device connected. After the computer has recognized the connect Xbox One, you can now proceed to the next steps.

If the Xbox one is not detected after connecting it through HDMI, you might need to go through the display settings of the laptop. With this, you need to navigate through the “System Settings” from the main menu. There, you can make the necessary customizations and configure the settings depending on your preference.

It is worth noting that you won’t be able to link the gaming console to a laptop through the HDMI output port. Nevertheless, you can always connect the two devices through the HDMI cable and then broadcast the game from the Xbox one to the laptop. You are using the laptop as an alternative screen. This will come in handy for those who are living in dorms or in small spaces that do not have enough room to install a TV.
