Common problems for Battery

Microsoft Windows 11

The PC is about 16 months old.  The battery stopped taking a charge so, if you disconnected the power cord battery charge would decrease.  So for the last few months tried to solve for this issue.  With the battery at 8% charge and, dispute very poor HP assistant as to the correct replacement battery, found one and replace the original battery.  The original battery had a date on it.  It was 2 yrs old.  The laptop was very seldom not plugged in.  I believe a battery in a laptop that is not easy to replace should have a 4 or greater life span as I used it.

I have two other laptops, a 360 pavilion and a pro book both with far better battery health and yet HP says there is no battery quality issue.  Very hard to believe

Hi @omgpeople,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when a laptop battery starts showing signs of degradation, especially within a relatively short period. Several factors can contribute to battery health issues, and it's not uncommon for batteries to degrade over time due to factors like charge-discharge cycles, temperature, and overall usage patterns.

Here are some steps you can take to improve and maintain battery health.

  • Charge Cycles: Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in laptops, have a limited number of charge-discharge cycles. If you frequently allow the battery to fully discharge and then recharge it, it can contribute to faster degradation. Try to keep the battery level between 20% and 80% for regular usage.
  • Temperature: Exposing the laptop to extreme temperatures, either too hot or too cold, can affect battery health. Store and use your laptop in a cool, dry place.
  • Update Firmware and Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's firmware (BIOS/UEFI) and device drivers are up-to-date. HP often releases updates that can address battery-related issues.
  • Power Settings: Adjust power settings on your laptop to optimize battery usage. Lower the screen brightness, disable unnecessary background processes, and use power-saving modes.
  • Calibration: Occasionally calibrate your laptop battery by fully charging it, then allowing it to discharge completely, and then fully charging it again. This helps the system accurately measure the battery's capacity.

In any case, keeping an eye on your power settings and usage habits can help extend the life of your laptop battery

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
