I have HP 15-r029wm Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR), model G9D74UA. Originally Windows 8.1, now Win10 Home. It shuts down without warning, even at 50% battery! Sometimes it says it isn't charging.
An HP batteryy check says that my battery is weak but I haven,t been unable to find a replacement battery mentioned at the HP website.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi:
Check the part number on your battery and compare it with the two listed in chapter 3 of the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04409502
It is probably the 3 cell battery listed in chapter 3 on page 19.
HP has that part # in stock --$62.10
Why that happens is normally one of the cells is shot, so the notebook is running fine and all of a sudden it shuts down when power is required from the bad cell.
You can also do a query by the part number and see if you can get the same battery for less elsewhere but make sure it is a genuine HP battery, or be willing to accept what you pay for if it isn't.

Hi:
Yes it should, because HP tells you to run the notebook without the battery installed if you plan to use it with the power adapter plugged in all of the time.
Here is a link to HP battery care practices to help you get the most out of your replacement battery.
