Hello. I have a laptop which is called 15-dw0006nt. It has 128 GB SAMSUNG MZNLN128HAHQ-000H1 M.2 SSD. I want to upgrade the storage to 512 GB.  Is my laptop supports 512 GB ? Which type of SSD should I buy ? As I searched there are two types of M.2 SSD. These are NVMe M.2 SSD and SATA M.2 SSD. For example, I found Kingston A2000 and it will works for me. Shall I buy that product ?

Hi:

 

The 128 GB M.2 drive you have in there now is SATA.

 

You can tell by the fact that it has two notches and by the Samsung part number of the drive.

 

Samsung MZNLN128HAHQ-000H1 - 128GB M.2 2280 SATA III NGFF Solid State SSD (cpumedics.com)

 

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

 

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

 

Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.

 

According to chapter 1, your notebook's M.2 slot supports both SATA and NVMe SSD"s. so you can install either type.

 

NVMe M.2 SSD"s provide faster read/write speeds than SATA ones do, but they run hotter due to the faster read/write speeds.

 

Since the service manual indicates that NVMe drives are supported, the Kingston A2000 should work for you.
