Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with my HP Laptop 15-dy2703dx after it suffered some minor water damage. Normally, when I plug in the charger, the charging LED shows a solid orange light. But now, it just flashes orange and white, and the laptop won’t power on when I press the power button.
I opened it up to investigate, and found that it only powers on if I disconnect and reconnect the USB FFC ribbon cable (the flat cable that connects to the USB/IO board), then plug in the charger and press the power button. If I don’t do that sequence, nothing happens then when I plug in the power cord it wont respond to power on and flashes orange/white light.
Has anyone seen this before? I’m trying to figure out whether I need to replace the battery, the USB/IO board, or if something else might be causing the issue. Also, I’m curious—why does resetting the FFC ribbon cable temporarily allow it to boot?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@Monaexo, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Battery problem: The flashing orange/white light might mean there’s an issue with the battery or charging. Try powering up without the battery (just the charger) to see if the laptop works.
Ribbon cable issue: Reconnecting the USB FFC cable temporarily helps because it might be fixing a loose or shorted connection caused by water damage. Check if the cable or its connectors are damaged or dirty.
Water damage to the motherboard: Water could’ve damaged the charging circuit or other parts of the motherboard.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

OK I inspected the ribbon cable for damage , edit has none, but as far as the connectors or other electrical components What would that damage look like exactly? Also, I noticed that when I disconnect the ribbon cable plug in the power cord, so that the laptop can come on the battery functions normally it charges normally just as long as I don’t power the device down, completely. The issue comes back when I power the device all the way down, So that it doesn’t come back on, when I press the power button. If I power it all the way down, I would have to open it up disconnect the ribbon cable and do all that to turn it back on, That’s what makes me think that this is not a battery issue.

I turned to this forum because i have Intermediate knowledge when it comes to technical support, and motherboards and such. I'm attempting to fix my issue myself taking what I already know and what other knowledable users know. So please don't refer me to any Authorized Specialist to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix what I can fix.
