I just bought  this laptop brand new and I'm loving it but there's an issue. I am not a hardcore gamer but I play games casually like CS:GO Dota 2 and PUBG mobile etc. I was playing PUBG the other day and I noticed that CPU was 1005 and on 1.6 GHZ while its max turbo frequency is 3.6 GHZ. Its throttling. I tried many fixes such as undervolting using throttlestop, changing the power profiles and even replacing the thermal paste but it still throttles and the max CPU frequency is 1.7GHZ. The cinbench 20 multicore score is also too low as compared to scores on the internet. My System scores around 1150 while the scores on the internet are minimum 1200 and average 1400. What else can I do to lower the temps and stop the throttling? Any advice would be appreceated. Thanks.

@Ashar_Ayub Did you know HP doesn't recommend or support overclocking the device?

And here's why:

HP has locked a few settings on your computer which are being managed by the system configuration as the device is configured to its optimal performance.

I am sorry if I wasn't clear in the description of my question. My main concern is the high temperatures of my CPU. I have not overclocked my CPU to any extent. The problem is that it struggles to run on its default clocks because of thermal throttling.

@Ashar_Ayub

Thank you for posting back.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
use the following steps:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
