In October 2024, I purchased the HP 255 G10/AMD Ryzen 7 7730U, 2.00 GHz (Windows Pro 11 Edition). Initially, it was smooth sailing, intensely user friendly, and an impressive device! Within a span of a few months, the device experienced numerous system “shut-downs-to-start “while hosting Zoom meetings and viewing short video clips on YouTube, et al. Please denote, the device remained connected to Xfinity Comcast throughout these unexpected events. The Internet never posed a problem!
In early spring 2025, Microsoft troubleshooted and reviewed my system dump files, system file checker, security protocol, and initial set-up, and installed the latest version of Windows, 24H2 a few weeks earlier. The representative asserted that my system could be corrupted. Therefore, I continued to contact HP support via direct telephone conversations since I had disabled hardware acceleration via Zoom and my browser, Microsoft Edge. I readily conducted a series of system tests of my device via HP Dashboard/Support Assistant. Everything appeared functional (passed) while the unexpected system shutdowns continued to persist.
I am neither an IT specialist nor an expert. Moreover, I diligently sought more insight as an educator and a trained researcher by profession. After researching various online platforms for reviews on the HP 255 G10, I discovered something noteworthy, which potentially described the dilemma at hand. The reviewer/consumer asserted: “2.0 GHz Processor -- is way outdated for the hardware inside. You have basically upgraded, a very old laptop with new equipment. Then you say, turbo-charged to run past 4.0 GHz. By overclocking the unit like that – you’re killing the laptop.” The tech specs on my HP 255 G10 device were quite an effective fit -- yet I neglected to factor out the 2.00 GHz as an ineffective fit. Regrettably so, this major oversight was costly to my bottom line!
Is there a potential design flaw with this specific device? For example, my system crashed (BSOD) due to overclocking, which is extremely unsettling! I have steadily maintained brand loyalty to HP products and never experienced any malfunctions with previous HP devices (laptops, printers).
Please advise, and thank you, kindly!
