Hi @declee,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that your HP Envy running Windows 11 is not recognizing an SD card when inserted, there’s no message or response, even though Autoplay is turned on. Let’s work together to get this fixed.

Step 1: Check the SD card and slot

  1. Remove and reinsert the SD card firmly into the slot, ensure it’s not loose or partially inserted.
  2. Try the SD card on another device (like a phone or another PC) to confirm it’s working properly.
  3. If available, try another SD card in your HP Envy to see if the slot detects it.

Step 2: Check File Explorer

  1. Open File Explorer → click on This PC.
  2. Look for your SD card under Devices and Drives.
    • If it appears without a drive letter, right-click it → choose Change Drive Letter and PathsAdd → assign a letter → click OK.

Step 3: Verify in Disk Management

  1. Press Windows + X → select Disk Management.
  2. Check if the SD card is listed.
    • If it shows as Unallocated or Not Initialized, right-click it and initialize or create a new volume (note: this erases data).
    • If not visible at all, proceed to the driver steps below.

Step 4: Update or reinstall the SD card reader driver

  1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Memory technology devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click your SD Host Controller or Card Reader → choose Update driverSearch automatically.
  4. If that doesn’t help, right-click again → Uninstall device, then Restart your PC Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

💡 You can also visit Official HP® Support and enter your HP Envy model number to install the latest Chipset and Card Reader drivers.

Step 5: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off your notebook.
  2. Power it on and immediately tap F2 repeatedly.
  3. Choose Component TestsStorageSD Card Test to check hardware functionality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
