HP Recommended

My laptop has normal wear, hardly leaves my desk/the house; and yet the hinge has started to split causing the screen to separate from the casing. I have researched and this has been a known problem for at least FIVE YEARS before I bought the laptop. I am shocked and this needs to be remedied. Does HP have an official statement out about this? It's clearly a known manufacturing default.
