I suspect that the charger filtering circuit has a failed component like a capacitor that results in a voltage change with a load change that happens in the highly process power needed to stream video. The charger likely has its own connection to the components power bus. It isn't listed as a separate component in the maintenance manual. Is it repairable? Can I verify the failure? Can the circuit be hacked? Is there another possible cause. Recalibration of the battery can do something. Is it the charger?

Hi @TomASutr,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP Envy x360 exhibits screen freezing while on the charger but works fine on battery power, it could be related to several issues. Your suspicion about a faulty charger or its filtering circuit is valid, but there are other potential causes as well. Here’s a breakdown of how you might approach diagnosing and resolving the issue:
1. Potential Causes and Diagnosis
a. Faulty Charger
- Diagnosis: Check if the charger is providing consistent power. You can use a multimeter to measure the output voltage of the charger and compare it to the specifications. If the voltage fluctuates or is outside the expected range, the charger might be defective.
- Repairability: Repairing a charger is generally not practical for most users due to the complexity and safety concerns. It’s usually more efficient to replace the charger with a new or known good one.
b. Power Management Settings
- Check Settings: In Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure the power plan settings are correctly configured. Sometimes power management settings can cause issues when switching between battery and AC power.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that your battery and AC adapter drivers are up to date. Go to Device Manager, find the battery section, and update or reinstall drivers.
c. Battery Calibration
- Calibration: Sometimes recalibrating the battery can help. To do this, fully charge the battery, then let it drain completely until the laptop shuts down. Recharge it fully and check if the issue persists.
d. Hardware Faults
- Power Bus or Circuit: Issues with the internal power bus or related components might be causing the problem. Inspecting or repairing these components usually requires professional service.
- Heat Issues: Ensure that the laptop isn’t overheating. Sometimes thermal issues can cause instability when the laptop is under load, like when watching videos.
2. Verifying the Failure
- Test with Another Charger: If you have access to a compatible charger, test your laptop with it to see if the issue persists. This can help confirm whether the charger is the problem.
- Monitor Voltage: Using a multimeter, measure the voltage of the charger under load and compare it with the laptop’s requirements. Significant deviations may indicate a problem with the charger.
3. Circuit Modification or Hacking
- Complexity: Modifying or hacking the power circuit is complex and risky. It requires a deep understanding of electronics and could potentially cause more harm to your laptop.
- Safety: Incorrect modifications can damage your laptop further or pose safety hazards.
4. Other Possible Causes
- BIOS Update: Sometimes updating the BIOS can resolve power-related issues. Check HP’s website for any available BIOS updates for your model.
- Software Conflicts: Certain software or drivers might conflict with power management features. Check for any recent changes or updates that might coincide with the issue.
- Faulty Battery: Although less likely, a defective battery could potentially cause issues when the laptop switches between battery and AC power.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

All reasonable solutions. I did have the battery swell. And both it and the mother board had to be replaced in 2022. I would like to test the voltage of the charger while running the laptop but with a round power cable that isn't possible. I am gone to look to see if I that the same plug that I can hack or I will see what load I have such as a resistor laying around.
I picked balanced and do not see any real control options like a slide bar.
I can do the rest I believe.
