Hi Everyone - My USB-C port displays an error in device manager when nothing is plugged in, and it has trouble recognizing a device when I plug it in.  I ran a diagnostic and it told me "HP USB port check has identified a critical failure in your system that requires repair."  What's crazy is I purchased a hub with several ports including USB-C ports, which has a USB-A plug, and it even fails when I plug that hub in (other USB-A devices are fine)

It's out of warranty.  Any troubleshooting tips or do I need a new motherboard?

Yes this has all the earmarks of a hardware failure requiring motherboard replacement. The USB-C port is soldered to the board. The USB-A slots on the other side are on a separate daughterboard.  But since you are having issues with both USB-C and USB-A ports it has to be the motherboard.
