HP MPP 2.0 Pen will keep writing after I lift from screen

Product: HP Envy x360 (2020) with HP tilt pen 2.0
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have only recently discovered this. A week ago i used the pen as usual with no issues arising. Then a week goes by without use and then when i start writing with the pen, it feels like whenever i lift my tip from the screen, it will still register that i touched the screen with the pen up to a very short distance above the screen. It becomes very annoying because expecially when you are writing with the pen, it registers my handwriting like it was connected. Changing pen tips changed nothing. Could it be dirt inside the pen?
