Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. I’ve encountered an issue with the cooling system on my beloved HP Omen 17.3. The problem is that the cooling fans periodically stops and then start again. Sometimes I get a 90B error and sometimes I don’t. The suggested solution, which I found by scanning the QR code - didn’t help. Does this mean it’s time to replace them? Or are there other options? The laptop is only 14 months old, and I’ve only been using it actively for the last 4 months.

Hey @Yumato,

Thank you for your response

Thermal pads don’t affect the fan system. What you should check is the fan wires to make sure they are connected properly. If the wires are fine and the problem still happens, then it might be a hardware issue. In that case, the fans may need to be replaced.

i hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Yumato, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're encountering an error related to the cooling system on your HP OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop. Specifically, the 90B error indicates that the system fan may not be operating correctly. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Basic Troubleshooting Steps

  • Reseat the Fan: Sometimes, reseating the fan can solve the issue. Disconnect the power and remove the battery (or unplug a nonremovable battery), open the service panel, and carefully reseat the fan connection.
  • Clean the Fan and Vents: Ensure there's no dust or debris obstructing the fan and vents. Use canned air and a microfiber cloth to clean these components.
  • Check for Blockages: Make sure the vents are not blocked when the laptop is in use. Avoid using the laptop on soft surfaces like beds or couches.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can help to reset the hardware components. Follow these steps:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then turn the computer back on.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) can help to determine if the fan itself is faulty.

  • Turn on your laptop and quickly press the Esc key, then F2.
  • Run the system tests, focusing on the cooling fan.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the diagnostic tests.

4. Check BIOS and Driver Updates

Sometimes updating the BIOS and drivers can resolve hardware issues.

  • Visit the HP support website to download the latest BIOS and driver updates for your model.

5. Replace the Fan

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to replace the fan. Given that your laptop is only 14 months old, it may still be under warranty or extended warranty coverage for parts.

Dear Garp_senchau, ty for the reply. I'll try your suggested steps a bit later. A have another question about the thermal paste inside notebook. Especially it's condition/appearance (sry about my bad english). Take a look at photos. Maybe this is causing the problem with fan system because of thermal paste is on the motherboard.
