EK0013DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a omen 15 2020 version coming to me on Monday. I plan on buying a monitor (1080p, 144hz) and connect it to my new laptop. I'm unsure if the thunderbolt port is connected to the dgpu or not. I want to get the full 144hz from the monitor. Do I buy a thunderbolt cable to DisplayPort or mini dp to display port? Which port is directly connected to the dedicated gpu? Where I am located currently, no stores have these cables, so I have to order from amazon and pay shipping which is about 60 bucks. So I need to get it right.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is it an HP OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0013dx ? Its specs

The specs does not show its available ports. Manual of the series shows (pages 2-3) it has the following ports which are suitable for external monitors

  • HDMI v2.0a supporting: up to 4096 × 2160 @ 60 Hz with HDCP 2.2
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C with Thunderbolt™ Gen 3 technology (right side) (select products only)
  • Mini DisplayPort 1.4

The normal rule is refresh rates going up, resolution will go down. The best option is Thunderbolt™ Gen 3 monitor then DisplayPort 1.4 and the last one is HDMI (only 1920 x 1080 @ 120Hz - from my test on my HP Omen).

Regards.

Thanks for the reply. Yes that is the model number of my laptop. I brought it from bestbuy.  So if I purchase a thunderbolt/usb c (Like this from amazon; https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R) I will be able to get 144hz @ 1080p?  The monitor I want to buy is this https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-VG249Q-Monitor-FreeSync-DisplayPort/dp/B0829S7178/?th=1, which has a DisplayPort.

I'm just trying to figure out if the thunderbolt port and the mini DisplayPort is wired to the dedicated Nvidia gpu or the intel one.

Every Display output is wire to the dGPU , You can easily find this out by opening the Nvidia Center...

Currently using HDMI but my monitor is 60hz , and as far as I know HDMI 2.0 Is capable of running  1080p @144hz with the proper HDMI Cable as long your monitor supports it.
