HP Pavilion - 15-cs0053cl

Our HP Pavilion is unable to finish booting up; it displayed a message indicating a Hard Disk error (3F0) and suggested running a system diagnostic test (F2). When I ran the test, it came back with a 24 digit Failure Code. I "contacted" HP Support (virtual assistant), but the warranty has expired, and they referred me to the forum.  So... after spending some time here, I can see that we most likely need to replace the hard drive and I understand it's a good idea to upgrade to SSD.  How do I know which brand/ model SSD will work with my machine?

Hi:

You may have a couple of options.

Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

You can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.  That would be the easiest thing to do.

The service manual indicates your notebook can also use the much faster M.2 NVMe drives which are also listed in the report above.

The only thing that concerns me about the M.2 option is the notation in the manual...Support for M.2 SATA/PCIe solid-state drive (select products only).

I looked at chapter 3 of the manual and there isn't any indication that additional parts are needed for the M.2 slot.

You would probably have to find the right screw to fasten down the M.2 drive though.
