I am trying to find if I can add additional storage internally to my laptop. It has the original hard drive but I use an external ssd connected via the C-Port, but I just want to make it easier for me instead of plugging in and have one internal.

Is this possible with this laptop? If so what sort do I need to get?

Thanks in advance

Hi:

The easiest thing to do would be to replace the 256 GB NVMe SSD with one having a greater storage capacity such as a 1 TB or 2 TB drive.

WD Blue SN570 2TB High-Performance M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, with up to 3500MB/s read speed : Amazon.co.uk:...

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the SSD removal and replacement procedure.

I'd rather place another one inside if possible rather than have to reinstall windows and transfer files, is that possible?

The manual indicates there is a place for a 2.5" drive but most likely the parts are not there to easily add one.

If the parts are not there, then you need to find and buy the 2.5" drive parts that are required to connect the drive to the motherboard, found in chapter 3 of the manual.

Hard drive brackets are available using spare part number L19469-001

The hard drive cable is available using spare part number L23889-001

would I be able to add a SSD in the 2.5" bay?

Am I restricted to what device I can use in there?

HP Recommended

If you plan on adding a 2.5" SSD instead of a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, that would be fine.

I use digital graphics so I assumed an SSD would be quicker and more reliable than a mechanical hard drive is this correct?

HP Recommended

Yes, even as a storage drive, a SSD will perform better due to it faster read/write speeds.

sorry for all the questions...

So if i read rightly I am limited to 1tb for an additional drive is that correct?

HP Recommended

Not a problem.

The storage capacities listed in the service manual are just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

So, if you wanted to install a 2 TB SATA SSD, that should be fine as well.

I just hope you can find the additional parts you need if they are not present, because it is not always easy to find them.

HP does not sell either of those parts, and when I queried the HP parts store in the UK, all I got was this list (beside the notification that the parts are not orderable from HP).
