Common problems for Battery

My HP Pavilion is at 0% and will not charge. This is the second time this has happened. First time the computer was sent out for repair and I was told the power adapter was not working. But that was not a correct diagnosis even thought the computer had started working again. I had checked multiple power adapters on it and none charged the computer. Now this has happened again. My other HP is charging fine. I suspect something is wrong with the charging port or the connection to the battery. How can check what is causing this problem and fix it. Computer is less than one year old and this has already happened twice.

@Generrik, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with recurring charging issues on your HP Pavilion laptop. Let's try to troubleshoot and identify the problem together. Here are some steps you can follow:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve charging issues. Here's how:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to turn on the laptop.

2. Check the Power Adapter

Even though you've tried multiple adapters, it's worth verifying:

  • Inspect the adapter for any visible damage.
  • Test the adapter with another device to ensure it's working properly.

3. Test the Charging Port

The charging port might be the culprit. Here's how to check:

  • Inspect the port for any debris or damage.
  • Gently wiggle the power connector while plugged in to see if the charging light flickers. If it does, the port might be loose or damaged.

4. Run HP Battery Check

HP provides a diagnostic tool to test battery health:

5. Check for Software Issues

Sometimes, software or driver issues can affect charging:

  • Update your battery drivers via Device Manager.
  • Check for any BIOS updates on the HP Support website.
